Creating a new  website is tough nowadays. Your website needs to fulfill all the demands that Google stipulates as well as a never ending list of web technologies and requirements. An example is the current state of the humble favicon, to get your icon to display correctly on all the varied internet enabled devices you need quite a few different icons (at least there are options to automate this, check Realfavicongenerator for example).

Automated SEO checking websites come in many different flavours and varieties. Some are paid services and some have a free evaluation. The features they check for highlight many aspects of your website that you wouldn't necessarily have have checked or accounted for normally.  This gives a you some insight behind the scenes as well as some perspective on how Google sees your website.

Some of the aspects highlighted by these tools can be over exaggerated and some are more important than they make them out to be. This is why it's important to use more than one to get a better overview. This way you can extract the most useful information as an executive summary. The SEO checkers we tested had to have a no-sign-up option.

In no specific order, here are the 5 SEO checkers we found most useful:

NEIL PATEL SEO

Not the the most useful SEO analyzer but the design is well made. This and you have to include the top result for a SEO analyzer because obviously he has done something right with his own SEO optimization so it will definitely be worth a look

SITECHECKER PRO

No sign up required. A lot of information, nicely laid out. A total score and explanations for each item in case you need more information. A good mobile section for mobile optimization.

SEOPTIMER

Very nice design with clear and concise information enhanced by easy to understand graphics. Individual and overall scores for each section. A useful recommended actions section at the end.

NIBBLER

Friendly design with easy to understand information and recommendations. Some more tests that others don't have.

SEOBILITY

Lightweight layout with clear and concise information. Useful improvement recommendations.

Using these tools and perhaps more that you discover yourself should give you a very good overview of potential areas to improve your site. The most important thing is to paint an overall picture using multiple tools and not to rely on the report from just a single source.
